Website Accessibility Standards - BES's Commitment for Website Accessibility
The BES website has been designed to be accessible and usable for all
visitors. The site has been coded to strict standards to ensure that it
operates across multiple platforms and browsers, to enable users to
access content, regardless of any personal disability, means of
accessing the internet and browser support.
All publicly accessible pages of this site should confirm to at least
double-A and in the majority of cases triple-A of the W3C's "web content
accessibility guidelines 1.0". If you find any pages that do not
conform to these guidelines please contact us at info@besweb.org. As
part of our continual website improvement programme, we are working
towards triple-A accessibility standards - making your online experience
even easier and enjoyable. If you have any suggestions about how we can
improve your online experience, please contact us on the above details.
Our aim is to ensure that this website is fully accessible. Should you
experience any difficulties using the site, we would value your
feedback, so we can take appropriate steps to resolve them. Please
contact us at info@besweb.org with details of the problem, the name and
version of the browser you are using and, if possible the operating
system and screen settings used.
This website accessibility policy only applies to web pages on the main
Comgem website at www.besweb.org. Other web sites linking from this
website may not adhere to the same standards.
Text size
All pages on this site use relative font sizes, allowing you to adjust
the text size using your web browser. To increase or decrease the size
of the text size in the following browsers perform the following:
1. Internet Explorer, go to view - Text Size
2. In Firefox, go to view - Text Size
3. In Netscape, go to view - Text Zoom
4. In Opera, go to view – Zoom
Standards compliance
We have endeavored to ensure that:
- All pages comply with at least Priority 1 and where possible Priority 2
and 3 checkpoints of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
- All pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional
- All stylesheets used validate as CSS2
- All pages on this site use structured semantic markup such as h1 tags
for main page headings, h2 tags for sub headings, etc. If you find any
pages that fail to adhere to these standards please contact us at
info@besweb.org.
Browser compatibility
This site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout and
presentation. The site is best viewed in a 'standards compliant' web
browser with proper stylesheet support, for example a recent version of
Internet Explorer (5+), Netscape, Opera or Firefox.
If you are using a browser that does not support style sheets (e.g. a
PDA or text-only browsers), or an older browser with poor stylesheet
support (e.g. Netscape 4), the content of each page should remain fully
accessible although it will be presented in plain text format.
If you have any questions regarding BES's accessibility policy please contact us at info@besweb.org.
